TerraTrack: a carbon footprint tracker for students and colleges

Most students want to live greener but have no idea how much CO₂ their day actually produces, or which change would matter most. Carbon calculators are long forms people fill once and forget. TerraTrack makes it as easy as saying what you did.

What it does

• Log in plain words or voice (English or Hindi): “took the metro 12 km, had paneer for lunch”. AI understands it and maps it to known items.
• Snap a bill or screenshot: a Swiggy order, a shopping receipt or an electricity bill is read by AI and turned into entries.
• Live GPS trip tracker: it guesses whether you are walking, cycling, in an auto or a car, then lets you confirm before saving.
• Greener route planner (OpenStreetMap): compares walk, cycle, metro, bus and car for your trip and shows the lowest-CO₂ choice.
• Insights and AI Coach: a weekly breakdown by category, your biggest win, simple swaps and a forecast of your yearly impact.
• Eco Wallet: trees and eco actions (compost, own bottle, own bag) earn credit. Tree credit is capped so reducing always comes first.
• Shareable summary card as a PDF for the week or month.

For colleges
Students join their college with a code. The college dashboard runs eco challenges with live leaderboards, gives rewards, posts updates and approves tree-planting photos, which AI checks first.

Trust by design
AI never invents a number. It only understands what you did; every kg of CO₂ comes from a fixed, sourced emission table in our code. If the AI is unavailable, a keyword parser takes over so the app always works.

React, Vite, Tailwind CSS, Recharts, Supabase (login and database with row-level security), Gemma 4 with Gemini as a backup, OpenStreetMap, Vercel. 128 automated tests.

Impact
TerraTrack turns climate action into a daily habit students can see, and gives colleges a simple way to measure and reward it.
