About the project
RecallTrace is an AI-powered food safety intelligence platform designed to help identify contaminated food products and trace their movement through complex supply chains. Inspired by the 2026 Cyclospora outbreak linked to contaminated iceberg lettuce, including reported exposures at Taco Bell restaurants, RecallTrace addresses the challenges of delayed outbreak detection and limited supply chain visibility.
Using real-world data from trusted government sources, including the FDA and CDC, RecallTrace provides interactive supply chain visualizations, outbreak intelligence, and AI-assisted analysis. The platform helps users investigate connections between farms, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and restaurants while distinguishing verified information from potential risks.
Our mission is to make food safety investigations faster, more transparent, and more accessible, helping protect communities and prevent future outbreaks.

Best Use of Gemini API
We used Google Antigravity, powered by Gemini, as our AI-assisted development environment to build RecallTrace. Gemini helped us generate and refine code, troubleshoot technical issues, develop interactive supply chain visualizations, and integrate real-world FDA and CDC outbreak data. This allowed our team to rapidly build a functional platform that makes food safety investigations more accessible and efficient.

Best Overall
The 2026 Cyclospora outbreak linked to contaminated lettuce exposed major gaps in food safety, affecting thousands of Americans across multiple states. RecallTrace tackles this real-world problem using AI, verified FDA and CDC data, and interactive supply chain tracking to help identify contamination sources faster. Our working platform demonstrates how AI can improve outbreak investigations, increase transparency, and potentially save lives.
