About the project

Project Name: Open-Source Contributor Guide — RAG Chatbot

I built an AI-powered chatbot that helps beginners understand how to make their first open-source contribution. It uses Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) with Google’s Gemma model to answer questions based on the official First Contributions README documentation.

The project retrieves relevant information from the documentation and generates helpful answers with supporting source passages. It can explain steps such as forking a repository, cloning it, making changes, and creating a pull request. It is designed to make open-source contribution easier for beginners by providing document-based answers instead of relying only on general AI knowledge.

Tech Stack: Python, Google Colab, Gemma, Sentence Transformers, embeddings, and RAG.

Data Source: First Contributions GitHub repository.

Future Improvements: Add more documentation sources, improve retrieval accuracy, and develop a user-friendly chatbot interface.
