AidNow
About the project
AidNow is a multilingual emergency copilot for Miami. A resident speaks, types, or snaps a photo, and AidNow works out what is happening, tells them which line to use (911, 311, FPL or 211), and writes the message for them, in English, Spanish or Haitian Creole, even with no internet.
The problem. 75.3% of Miami-Dade residents speak another language at home, yet Text-to-911 launched English-only with a 160-character limit. After hurricanes and floods, 911 fills with calls that belong with other lines, and power and networks fail when people need help most.
Who it helps. Marie, 68, in Little Haiti: no data, water in her home. She speaks Creole and gets a red screen, an English 911 text with her address, and a Creole line showing what it says. Carlos, 45, in Hialeah: a tree is down and the power is out. He gets two ready reports, one for 311 and one for FPL.
