About the project

Proxy attendance and roll calls waste lecture time and make attendance records unreliable. Our app replaces the roll call with a QR code that changes every 30 seconds. The teacher starts a session and sets how long check-in stays open, and the screen shows a live QR code with a countdown. Students scan it with their phone camera, enter their roll number, and are marked present in a few seconds.

The server checks every check-in. It rejects expired or forwarded QR codes, students who aren’t enrolled in the course, duplicate check-ins, and a second student checking in from the same phone. The teacher sees the attendance list update live, can extend the window by 5 minutes, and downloads a CSV of who was present and absent. A course summary shows each student’s attendance percentage and highlights anyone under 75%. Optionally, a teacher can write the session link to an NFC tag so students can tap to check in.

We chose a zero-hardware, zero-biometric design so any classroom can use it with students’ own phones. Next, we want to add student logins, a classroom-network check to stop remote proxying, and attendance analytics with pandas.
