SafeToDelete
SafeToDelete is an AI-assisted developer tool designed to help software engineers understand the potential consequences of deleting code before actually removing it from their projects. Developers often encounter unused files, components, functions, dependencies, and outdated implementations during maintenance and refactoring. However, code that appears unused may still be referenced through indirect dependencies, dynamic imports, framework conventions, configurations, or runtime behaviour. Removing such code without understanding its impact can introduce unexpected bugs and break application functionality.
SafeToDelete addresses this problem by combining static code analysis, dependency mapping, isolated deletion simulations, and automated testing. Developers can select files or folders they intend to remove, inspect their dependencies, and simulate the deletion in an isolated Git environment without modifying their original codebase. The platform then runs relevant builds, compilation checks, and tests to identify potential breakages and assigns an evidence-based risk classification. Rather than simply identifying potentially unused code, SafeToDelete investigates what happens when that code is actually removed.
AI serves as an intelligence layer that makes these findings easier to understand and act upon. It explains risk reports, investigates build and test failures, answers natural-language questions about code dependencies, and recommends safer cleanup alternatives. However, AI does not independently decide whether code is safe to delete; that responsibility remains with the deterministic analysis and simulation engines. The goal is to give developers a more informed, reliable, and non-destructive way to maintain cleaner codebases. SafeToDelete — Know what breaks before you delete it.
