MindMoments: A Memory-Grounded Diary and Reflection App

MindMoments helps people make sense of their everyday experiences over time. Instead of treating each journal entry as an isolated note, it brings together moments, moods, and tags so users can revisit what they recorded and explore patterns in their own history.

What it does

  • Capture moments: Record thoughts, experiences, decisions, and milestones, with mood labels and tags to make entries easier to revisit.
  • Ask questions about your diary: Use AI Mind to ask questions about recorded memories, such as what you’ve been working on or what patterns appear in your entries.
  • Look for recurring rhythms: Review forecasts and reflections that draw on diary context, including recurring themes and patterns.
  • Review the week: Generate a recap of recent entries, including notable moments and unfinished threads.

How AI is used

AI is used to generate diary-grounded responses and reflections. Depending on the feature and configured provider, the app can call models through Groq or Google’s API; its non-chat AI path also supports local Ollama with Gemma 2 2B. The specific model used depends on configuration and provider availability. If an AI request cannot be completed, some features can use a local, rule-based fallback instead.

Data and privacy

Diary entries and app data are stored in the browser using IndexedDB. When a hosted AI provider is used, the diary context included in that request is sent to the provider to generate a response. Local browser storage does not mean hosted AI requests stay on the device. Users who want local inference can configure Ollama for supported features.

Built with

MindMoments is built with Next.js, React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS. It uses IndexedDB for browser-side persistence and integrates with AI providers for inference.
