WattWise: AI Energy Coach
About the project
Turn equipment usage estimates into one practical energy-saving experiment.
WattWise is an open-source AI energy planning assistant for small factories, with additional household scenarios.
The prototype helps an operator estimate equipment consumption, identify promising changes, and compare their projected impact while preserving designated essential loads.
How it works
- Enter equipment power, operating hours, an energy rate, and proposed alternatives.
- Describe production requirements and operational constraints.
- Protect essential equipment and operating modes.
- Ask local Gemma 4 to select an eligible change or request clarification.
- Compare the projected consumption and variable energy cost, then save or export the plan.
Industrial demonstration
Our fictional packaging factory operates 24 eight-hour production days within a 30-day period.
Applying an assumed, already approved schedule to eliminate compressor idle operation projects a reduction of 2,304 kWh and R$2,419.20—10.64% of the modeled variable energy cost. Production-time compressor use and all other baseline loads remain unchanged.
These are illustrative projections, not measured savings or a complete electricity-bill forecast.
AI and architecture
Gemma 4 runs locally through Ollama and considers operational context when choosing among precomputed alternatives. Python calculates the numerical results and validates the selected option.
The application uses Python, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and browser local storage. Its source code is MIT-licensed.
Next steps
Validate recommendations with factory operators, integrate a real energy meter, and compare measured outcomes while tracking production, quality, and operational constraints.
