We created Detroit Local - a place for people in Detroit to find small businesses, engage with their neighbors, and overall, build a strong community around them. We took inspiration from the ‘5-minute cities’ theory that shares how productive cities can be when people’s needs’ are 5 minutes away from the place they live, fostering a small, tight-knit community in the larger city of Detroit. Our project tries to help newbies to find existing community, encourage Detroit natives to reach out to new people, and foster growth and encouragement for vendors in the city.
