CosmicWatch is an open-source AI system for astronomical anomaly triage. It analyzes radio telescope data, detects unusual signal patterns, ranks candidates for investigation, and generates an explanation of why each candidate was flagged.

The pipeline combines a lightweight CNN for signal detection, spectral features and Isolation Forest for anomaly detection, ON/OFF observation analysis, and an open-weight LLM for scientific explanation.

SETI is one of the main applications of CosmicWatch. The system does not claim to detect aliens. Instead, it helps researchers identify unusual radio signals that may deserve further investigation.

We built the system using real Breakthrough Listen data alongside controlled synthetic signals for evaluation.
