TroubleShoot
About the project
A Gemma-powered Windows troubleshooting assistant that explains system facts, requests approval for bounded repairs, and verifies what changed.
TroubleShoot helps Windows users understand problems without blindly following commands. Its installable PWA connects to an authenticated local Windows helper, gathers fresh system, network and Print Spooler facts, and uses hosted Gemma 4 (gemma-4-26b-a4b-it through the Gemini API) to explain the evidence and propose bounded next steps.
Each run requires explicit consent before diagnostic text reaches hosted inference. Mutating actions require specific human approval, and the workflow supports cancellation, fresh verification and recovery. API credentials are encrypted using Windows DPAPI outside the repository.
The current prototype has real hosted Gemma Windows diagnosis evidence. Full hosted repair validation and browser installation remain pending; desktop mutation and hosted vision are disabled. A running Print Spooler proves service state—not successful printing. The public website includes an interactive sample walkthrough; actual troubleshooting requires the Windows helper.
The MIT-licensed public repository includes the Python/FastAPI backend, Windows PowerShell tools, PWA console, React/TypeScript/Vite website, tests, and validation evidence. A local Ollama Gemma adapter and its evaluations are retained, while the current production runtime is hosted-only.
Best Use of Gemma 4
TroubleShoot uses hosted Gemma 4 to interpret fresh Windows diagnostic facts and produce structured explanations and bounded action proposals. Deterministic policy checks and human approval separate model reasoning from native execution; real hosted read-only inference evidence and local Gemma evaluations are included.
Best Open-Source AI Project
The original implementation is public under the MIT license, including Windows tools, Gemma adapters, approval workflows, tests and validation evidence. Gemma is central to its reasoning, while the boundaries between proposals, approved execution and verified outcomes remain inspectable.
