Astrophotography processing can be challenging for beginners, and troubleshooting knowledge is often shared informally among experienced users. ATHENA Copilot helps bridge that gap by analyzing an astrophotography stack, measuring potential image issues such as stacking borders, banding, and background gradients, and using the Gemini API to turn those measurements into understandable explanations and actionable processing suggestions.

The image analysis uses reproducible NumPy-based heuristics, while Gemini provides the natural-language interpretation. The goal is to help ATHENA users and astronomy volunteers understand what may be wrong with a stack and decide what to try next, without treating AI-generated explanations as proven diagnoses.
