MamdaniMeter
MamdaniMeter is a tool intended for city municipalities to see how their priorities for the city translate into actual results. There already exist software suites by companies like autodesk to manage zoning, urban planning, traffic engineering, and other objective aspects of cities managed by policy. However, in other documents, like city charters or strategic plans, policymakers often specify less concrete goals like “improve equitable access to parks” or “provide faster transit.” These are harder to evaluate.
MamdaniMeter aims to bridge this gap. It starts by processing documents regarding visions, strategic plans, etc. An LLM will identify “rules” or “conditions” in these documents, and compare them to publicly available datasets published by cities, with metrics like travel time, demographic data, utilisation, etc. which are sometimes even combined. The app will then use this data to give scores to specific districts in the city based on predetermined categories and metrics. Based on the score, each district will be colored with a red to green gradient based on compliance, and the app user can change viewws based on individual cateegories, subcategories and metrics.
This allows policy makers to see where policy and reality does not meet their vision of the city, and identify possible reasons why.
