CHALLENGE 2: Getting Started with Cursor

Level: Beginner
Use Cursor’s AI chat to generate or explain your first piece of code. Always check cursor.com/docs for the latest.

What are we building?

Your first real moment with Cursor’s AI. Instead of writing or reading code alone, you’ll ask the AI to explain something or generate it for you, in plain English. Think of it as having a patient senior dev sitting next to you.

How it works

  1. Go to cursor.com and click Download (it auto-detects your OS).
  2. Open the AI chat — it lives right in the editor.
  3. Ask in plain English“Explain this” or “Write me a function that…”
  4. Watch it respond — with code or an explanation, in the context of your project.

Steps

  1. Open Cursor and either open a project or create a new file.
  2. Press Cmd/Ctrl + L to open the AI chat panel.
  3. Try one of these:
    • Paste in a chunk of code and ask “Explain what this does.”
    • Ask “Write a function that reverses a string” (in any language you like).
  4. Read the response. Ask a follow-up if you want — it remembers the conversation.

Submit: A screenshot of Cursor generating or explaining code, plus one sentence on what you built or learned.

Submissions are only open during the event.
