About the project

Gainesville Resource Navigator helps Gainesville and Alachua County residents discover public assistance programs that may be relevant to their situations. Users complete a short questionnaire, and an explainable rule-based matcher compares their answers against curated geographic, household, demographic, and income prescreening criteria for resources such as SNAP, WIC, Florida KidCare, veteran services, social services, and housing assistance.

Each result explains why it appeared, identifies requirements that still need official verification, and links directly to trusted government sources. Users can also generate a Gemini-powered next-step guide in English, Spanish, or Haitian Creole. Gemini only organizes and translates resources selected by the deterministic matcher; it does not determine eligibility. Structured-output validation, data minimization, and a local fallback keep the experience private, reliable, and useful even when the AI service is unavailable.
