Hacktoberfest Hack Day Nashik x MSC KBTCOE

Hacktoberfest Hack Day Nashik x MSC KBTCOE background

Join us for Nashik’s local Hacktoberfest Hack Day, hosted by the Microsoft Student Community (MSC), KBTCOE at B-Building, KBT College of Engineering, Nashik.

This October, Hacktoberfest 2026 is all about building with open source AI and we’re bringing that energy straight to campus. Whether you’re opening your first pull request or you’ve been contributing to open source for years, this is a day to learn, collaborate, and ship something real alongside other student developers from around the city.

What to expect:
Hands-on sessions on open source AI tools, models, and workflows
Dedicated hacking time to build, contribute, or experiment
Mentorship and support from MSC KBTCOE leads and volunteers throughout the day
A project showcase at the end of the day, where teams can demo what they built,
Swag, and a genuinely good time with the local dev community

Who should attend:
Students of any experience level from complete beginners to seasoned contributors. No prior open source experience required, just curiosity and a laptop.

On-ground coordination:
This event is organized and run by the MSC KBTCOE team, with on-site support from Kalpesh Chavan, Vaishnavi Patil, Vinit Deore, Dronav Dalvi, and Suyog Deore, alongside the wider MSC leadership.

Visit hacktoberfest.com/events for more information about how to run and promote your event. Be sure to share pics and screenshots of your event with the community and tag #Hacktoberfest!

Happy hacking!

Challenges

Best Use of Gemma 4

It’s time to see how much you can build with a lightweight, open model. Gemma 4 packs multimodal intelligence into an open-weights model that you can access through the Gemini API. So, what can Gemma 4 bring to your project?

  • Multimodal Experience: Work with text and images to create an assistant that understands more of what users share.
  • Focused AI Tools: Build a focused AI tool for learning, creativity, productivity, or your community.
  • Rapid Prototyping: Experiment with an open model while using the Gemini API to move quickly from an idea to a working prototype.

Bring your idea to life… what will you build with Gemma 4 today?

Best Open-Source AI Project

Build an original project that uses open-source or open-weight AI as an important part of how it works. Teams could create an agent skill, build with an open-weight large or small language model, or build or adapt an open-source model harness. These are examples within one challenge, and teams may combine them.

Open-source or open-weight AI must be an important part of the project.

The project must be published in a public GitHub repository and use an open-source license.

An agent skill must comply with the Agent Skill Open Standard.

A model-harness entry must include an original implementation or meaningful changes to an existing open-source harness.
