Hacktoberfest Hack Day Kathmandu

OCT 10Kathmandu, Bagmati ProvinceIn Person
Organized byIIgnite Open Source

About

It’s a one-day hackathon on October 10th, 2026 at Sunway College,Maitidevi — Kathmandu’s local event for Hacktoberfest 2026, a global open-source celebration.

Throughout the day, there’s a mix of activities to keep things fun and engaging — a virtual conference session with talks from people in the industry, hands-on hacking time where teams build their own projects, and fun mini-events and games running alongside it all. It’s less about sitting and listening, and more about building, playing, and having a good time with other developers.

Good projects that come out of the day also get a chance at incubation support afterward, so the best ideas don’t just end when the event does.

At the end of the day, there are demos and prizes for the best projects.

It’s free to join, and open to students and early-career developers from across the Kathmandu Valley.

Best use of open source AI for Real-World Impact

Build an open source AI-powered project that solves a real problem for people around you, whether in education, health, agriculture, language, accessibility, local government, or your own community. AI must be central to how the project works, not a bolt-on feature. We’re looking for projects that a real person could pick up and use.

Local Problem, Real Solution: Start from a problem you or people near you actually face.
AI at the Core: Remove the AI and the project should stop working.
Working Demo: Show it working on real input, not just slides.

Projects must be published in a public GitHub repository with an open-source license.
