Hacktoberfest Hack Day Hamirpur x GDG Ludhiana

Presented by NIT Hamirpur Chapter : GDG Ludhiana in partnership with Major League Hacking (MLH).
About the Event
Get ready to innovate, build, and connect! Hacktoberfest Hack day Hamirpur x GDG Ludhiana is a high-energy, one-day in-person mini hackathon hosted at NIT Hamirpur as part of Hacktoberfest, the world’s largest celebration of open source.
This year’s theme centers on open source and open-weight AI: models, tools, and agents that anyone can inspect, run, and build upon. It’s a fast-paced collaborative day where you arrive in the morning, form a team, build a small, real-world project from scratch, and demo it that same afternoon.
Welcoming Freshers & Curious Minds!
A huge welcome to all freshers, first-year students, and complete beginners: you do NOT need to be a seasoned coder or have a background in AI to participate!
Whether you write code, design user interfaces, or are simply curious about open-source technology and how things work, there is a seat at the table for you. All you need to bring is your curiosity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn in an inclusive, safe, and judgment-free environment.
What’s In It For You?
- Prizes, Swag & Goodies: Inclusive tracks tailored for everyone, whether you are a complete beginner, an experienced coder, or someone who just wants to explore technology and build something fun.
- Community Interaction & Tech Talks: Gain insightful knowledge through interactive workshops, expert-led talks, and peer sessions that break down open-source, developer tools, and modern AI.
- Hands-on Mentorship & Portfolio Growth: Work side-by-side with experienced mentors who will help turn your ideas into a real, published GitHub repository, boosting your developer portfolio in just one day.
Who Can Attend?
1.Freshers & First-Time Contributors: Curiosity is the only prerequisite. We need no prior open-source experience needed!
2. Students, Developers, & Designers: From beginners writing their first lines of code to experienced builders pushing their limits.
3. Tech Enthusiasts: Anyone eager to collaborate, connect with peers, and experience real hackathon culture.
What You Will Do :
- Form a Team & Build: Create a working project from scratch on the day using open-source tools or open-weight AI models.
- Share Your Work: Push your project to a public GitHub repository under an open-source license.
- Demo Your Project: Present a quick 5-minute live demo of what your team built.
Important Rule
All development work must start at the event. Projects or codebases begun before the day are strictly not eligible. Come with fresh ideas, enthusiasm, and curiosity not pre-existing code!
Challenges
Best Use of Gemma 4
It’s time to see how much you can build with a lightweight, open model. Gemma 4 packs multimodal intelligence into an open-weights model that you can access through the Gemini API. So, what can Gemma 4 bring to your project?
- Multimodal Experience: Work with text and images to create an assistant that understands more of what users share.
- Focused AI Tools: Build a focused AI tool for learning, creativity, productivity, or your community.
- Rapid Prototyping: Experiment with an open model while using the Gemini API to move quickly from an idea to a working prototype.
Bring your idea to life… what will you build with Gemma 4 today?
Best Open-Source AI Project
Build an original project that uses open-source or open-weight AI as an important part of how it works. Teams could create an agent skill, build with an open-weight large or small language model, or build or adapt an open-source model harness. These are examples within one challenge, and teams may combine them.
Open-source or open-weight AI must be an important part of the project.
The project must be published in a public GitHub repository and use an open-source license.
An agent skill must comply with the Agent Skill Open Standard.
A model-harness entry must include an original implementation or meaningful changes to an existing open-source harness.
